Punk is here to stay. Bands like Blink-182 and Sum41 are what the people love. But for those of us who would rather not buy CDs entitled Take off Your Pants and Jacket, the Christian market has Relient K, MxPx, and now FM Static. Featuring Trevor McNevan and Steve Augustine of hard-core band Thousand Foot Krutch, FMS mixes elements of pop and punk rock to create the superb What Are You Waiting For?, which is sure to please those of us looking for more and more alternatives to the secular punk rock out there.
What Are You Waiting For? opens with "Three Days Later," a perfect punk/pop teen anthem opener displaying what can be expected on the rest of the album. The next track "Crazy Mary" is about reaching out to those in need of a friend. It's a beautiful song with a great beat that is sure to satisfy. Next up is "Something to Believe In," followed by the album-best "Definitely Maybe." This song expresses the joy and pain of being in love with a girl you barely know. Other highlights include "All the Days," "Hold Me Twice" and "The Notion." Also, be sure to hang around for the hidden song which happens to be another love anthem, only this time acoustic.
Summer love is the overall theme of the disc. You can count the references to God on one hand (Actually, one finger), but the songs are all innocent love anthems. Don't search for any amount of depth on What Are You Waiting For?. The disc will only serve as a disappointment to those who do search for it. However, for everyone else, FM Static is a fine example of an alternative to the secular music we've heard all too often.
