While some artists change tend to change too much with each album, some drastically improve. Puller has always been the type of raw rock band that has had something to offer, but What's Mine at Twilight shows off this fact and promises the listening audience that they continually have much to offer. Their latest effort, What's Mine at Twilight starts off with the Common Children-reminiscent "Hold On to Me," with a quiet melodic guitar intro that picks up when the song starts. Their melodic rock sound isn't produced much and leave a more rawer, garage rock feel to it. Although this is hardly a bad thing, the strong yet often relaxed vocals are not so easily complimented when joined by background vocals. This is evident in such songs as "Man on the Move," that are good, nonetheless, but could be assisted by tighter harmonies.
Puller's songs, although relatively similar in sound and mood, create a soft, laid back setting that make the tracks easy to listen to especially if you're in the mood for something easy to listen to that isn't necessarily pop (which isn't exactly always easy to listen to). The "hardest" the quartet ever tend to get is on the track "Heart of the Moment" when the speed and rhythm pick up, while the guitars crunch heavier on "Two Can Play." And although the music can tend to sound more aggressive, it really isn't. It still remains rather tame. "The Good Song" and "If She's the One" gradually slow the album to a close with the latter being a soft acoustic ballad.
I was rather impressed with this record. Although it could use just a tad more polishing, the raw, rough production is relatively easy on the ear. I really look forward to the band's next project, but in the meantime, I suggest checking out What's Mine at Twilight
