When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch." When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.
Here we see Jesus' followers crowding around him so much that He seeks out Simon Peter's assistance. He gets into Peter's boat and asks him to put out a little from shore. Jesus finishes His preaching from the boat, where he's a safe distance from the crowds pressing in on him, yet close enough to be heard by his audience. After Jesus is done preaching, He instructs Peter to head out into deep water and let down his nets. When Peter obeys the Master, he is rewarded with a catch so large that it not only fills up two boats, but it begins to sink them!
There are many wonderful lessons this Bible account can teach us, but one is the fact that when the Lord asks to borrow something of ours for His use, and we agree, He is very likely to show His appreciation in unexpected and extraordinary ways. God may ask to borrow your home sometime so that a Bible study group can meet there, or so that a group of His children can get together for a time of fun and fellowship in His name. Perhaps the Lord will ask you to lend Him your vehicle or your driving services so that the transportation needs of others can be met. He may even ask to borrow your church sometime so that it could be used to hold a Christian concert or other event for His glory. Whatever it is that God is asking to borrow from you today, offer it up to Him with wholehearted devotion, and then watch Him open up new doors of opportunity and blessing for you!
Prayer: Lord, show me anything that I have that You could use for Your purposes
and Your glory. All that I have is from You, and I offer it up to You with
all my heart. Give me a heart that wants to share with others and help me
to see that when I don't, I may be cutting myself off from some of Your
greatest blessings. Thank You for rewarding my obedience in amazing ways!
