The God of Miracles

"You are the God of miracles and wonders! You still demonstrate Your awesome power." - Psalm 77:14 TLB

Did you know that working miracles is everyday business for God? It's true. And yet, many believers have the notion that miracles passed away a long time ago. Oh, they may not say so in those exact words, but by their actions--or lack of them--they often prove that that's exactly what they think. If you are one of these unbelieving believers, I have a word from the Lord for you today. It's Psalm 77:14 (TLB)--"You are the God of miracles and wonders! You still demonstrate Your awesome power." Let me share with you three areas that are critical to witnessing the miracle-working power of God on your behalf.

The first area is PRAYER. Praying to know God's will in our situation invites His wonder-working power on the scene. Scripture says: "Make me understand what You want; for then I shall see Your miracles." (Psalm 119:27 TLB) Many times, our desires in the matter are too small, and we need to ask the Lord to expand our vision. The apostle Paul wrote, "Do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is." (Ephesians 5:17 NIV) God's will is knowable and doable. One of the main functions of the indwelling Holy Spirit is to transmit revelation knowledge to us that will help us to walk in God's perfect will. (John 16:15 AMP) Once we begin praying in harmony with the will of God, the Bible assures us that it's just a matter of time until we receive the answer. (1 John 5:14-15) One of the things that is robbing Christ-followers of a lot of their miracles is an attitude that says, "Whatever will be, will be." This is totally unscriptural. We have a part to play in bringing God's highest purposes to pass on this earth. Jesus said, "According to your faith will it be done to you." (Matthew 9:29 NIV) You and I are not a "victim of circumstances." Our faith in Christ enables us to have considerable influence over our lives, but we must exercise that faith in every situation. Praying and acting in faith will invite God's mighty intervention.

Another important area we must give attention to in order to see God work miracles on our behalf is that of SPEECH. Praying God's will over our situation is not enough. We must also SPEAK God's will over it. Here's where a lot of believers miss it. They'll tell you that they are earnestly praying for God's best in their situation, but then you will hear them say things like, "I don't see how we're ever going to get out from under these bills." Or, "I just don't know what I'm going to do if God doesn't heal me." They don't realize that they are undoing their own prayers. The Bible says: "Put away from you false and dishonest speech, and willful and contrary talk put far from you." (Proverbs 4:24 AMP) Praying according to God's will, and then speaking contrary to it, is counterproductive. I like the way the Message Bible puts this verse: "Don't talk out of both sides of your mouth." When Jesus taught on mountain-moving faith in Mark 11, He said that whatever we believe in our hearts and say with our mouths will come to pass. (Mark 11:23) This is a great principle if you and I are speaking positive things over our situation. But what if we're speaking negative things? Then this principle will work against us, instead of for us. The next time you are tempted to speak words of doubt over your situation, remember Jesus' words--"He will have whatever he says." (Mark 11:23 NKJV)

The right kind of MEDITATION is also essential in witnessing God's miracle-working power on our behalf. Psalm One reveals that meditating on God's Word day and night leads to fruitfulness and prosperity. (Psalm 1:2-3) I've discovered that it can also lead to miracles. When I'm in a situation that just begs for the miraculous, I begin meditating on what I call my "nothing list." I quote Scripture and declare over and over--"Thank You, Lord, that nothing is impossible with You...Nothing is too difficult for You...Nothing can hinder You." (Luke 1:37 NIV; Jeremiah 32:27 NASB; 1 Samuel 14:6 NLT) When fear or doubt assail me, I raise my hands to heaven and praise God for His ability and willingness to work wonders on behalf of His people--for Scripture says: "Praise the Lord who does these miracles for you." (Joel 2:26 TLB) But I don't just major on what God can do; I also meditate on what I can do as a follower of Christ. Based on what Jesus said, I declare--"All things are possible to me because I believe." ( Mark 9:23 NKJV) And, "Nothing shall be impossible for me!" (Matthew 17:20 NIV) This reminds me that I have an important part to play in my miracle, and as I do my part, God is faithful to do His. Do you need a touch of the miraculous today? Then call upon the God of miracles--and watch Him work!

Prayer: Lord, teach me how and when to pray for Your miracle-working power. Help me to cooperate with You for the growing of my faith. Teach me to speak words of life and faith, instead of doubt and fear. Thank You that as I do my part, lives and circumstances will be changed in mighty ways for Your glory!
