After God had delivered the Israelites from Pharoah's hand in Egypt, He instructed them to travel on to Canaan, the Promised Land. After ten of their twelve scouts brought back a negative report because of the "people of great size" that lived there, the majority of the people refused to obey God and move ahead. When God pronounced judgment on the people because of their disbelief, they realized their foolish mistake and tried to undo it. But it was too late. When they headed out to take possession of the land, God did not go with them, and they were overpowered. What should have been a shining victory for God's people turned out to be a bitter defeat.

You've probably heard the saying, "God's timing is perfect." If that's true, then when God tells us to do something, we need to obey Him promptly. When we do, we will have God's presence and power with us, and our victory will be secure. If you feel like God is prompting you to do something or go somewhere, pray about it. Ask Him to make it clear to you what He wants you to do. Tell Him you want to do it according to His timetable. In Exodus 33:15, Moses' prayer was, "If Your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here." That should be our prayer, too. Step out according to God's plan and timing and know that when you do, He will be with you and you will succeed!

Prayer: Lord, I thank You that your timing is always perfect. Show me where to go and what to do. Help me to never step out ahead of You, or lag behind You, Lord. I need Your presence in my life, and I look to You to guide me always. Thank You that I'll never have to face life's challenges without You!
