Split the blackened sky, open flood gates wide
With just one little cry you open up your eyes
We live like whores
We’re killing dreams for little boys and little girls
It’s our nation, we were living for the day
On our way to devastation, in the fires we play
Awake the frozen souls, burn the idol bulls
Our lips pressed to the coal, a glowing cinder makes us whole
We wash our hands
Of all the blood from innocence that we have shed

Behind the Song:"I wrote this song after reading Psalm 106. David is praising God for His mercy, yet warning the people of Israel of the same actions of their ancestors. It made me think about our nation today. Not that I think God will destroy us, but I think we are definitely worthy of it. We live in times where people are fighting for gay marriages, where people are fighting for the legal murdering of babies, where the word of God and the act of prayer have been de-valued, where sex and violence have become a standard. How did we fall so far? Did Godly men with Godly character and standards not found this country? It’s become very apparent that our nation is in much need of God again. That leaves the church. Not that God needs us, but it’s our responsibility to love the lost, show them a better way, and lead them from destruction. This song is my warning." - Dave Pelsue (
