Behind the Song:
“‘My Anchor’ was written with Jason Ingram, and we’ve been friends with Jason for probably 12 or 14 years. [We were] on staff at a church with him for a while, so getting to write with Jason is always fun. A lot of times a writing session will start out with a good conversation about the state of the Church, what the culture’s like, what the world’s like right now. We’ll just talk about what God’s doing in our nation. We’ll talk about stuff that bothers us on social media. Then often what happens is we’ll pray. We’ll say, ‘Jesus, in light of everything we just talked about, what do you want to say to the Church? What do you want to say to us? What do you want us to lead the Church in?’ That’s a powerful prayer, and that’s what we did the day we wrote ‘My Anchor’… I feel like ‘My Anchor’ is just something that this generation needs to sing. I saw it at Passion when I led it. You could tell it was something they were ready to sing in the moment.”
