06. The Move

1919: The Ballad of Rexford
by Mark Lee Townsend

Dad came in and said that
we’re moving out
We’re moving into someplace
different
Moving out of the city
We’re getting back to the
country for now
They closed the factory
doors
And with it went our life of
easy living
Now he must bare his back
in fields
And hope the soil will be
forgiving
But if we keep our heads
together
it will all be fine
A season always changes
given time
We’ll pack our things as we
remember this
And go where the good life is
Yes these are hardened times
The system has its share of
its abusers
And yet a country shows its
greatness
In the sweat of honest
workers
If we keep our heads
together there
will be a way
This situation changes
everyday
We’ll make the best of it
whatever it is
And if we keep our heads
together it
will all be fine
A season always changes
given time
We’ll pack our things as we
remember this
And go where the good life is
