07. So Many Ways To Say Goodbye
Album: Article One
Artist: Article One

Honest to God when I was younger
I asked my parents who drove us to heaven
Is there a map to double check directions and get us home?
How are you doing up in heaven?
Do you see me looking through the clouds?
Do they have those machines?
Money for a bigger view like Niagara falls?

And eighteen seems so young
To think of moving on
But God is way too young for dying

So many ways to say goodbye
You better believe it
So many ways to say goodbye
And I don’t want, to say anything tonight

The phone goes off to say you’re leaving
They also say you’re never coming back
What does it mean, you're never coming back
Are you going home?
I’ve said goodbye a million times
But how do I say goodbye to you?
It’s so hard to say goodbye when it means let go

And eighteen seems so young
To think of moving on
But God is way too young for dying

So many ways to say goodbye
You better believe it
So many ways to say goodbye
And I don’t want, to say anything tonight

Behind the Song:
"This idea for this song floated around for a long time. Sometimes, it will take me over a year to go from an idea to a finished song. Originally, when I started working on this, I tried to write a lighthearted song about hating to say goodbye to your girlfriend. However, as things developed, I thought the music was really strong and needed lyrics with more depth. It didn't take long to finish the chorus, but the song was put on hold again, until a neighbour called saying that a friend of ours had passed away. Although I hadn't been in touch for a number of years, our families had been very close when we were younger. The visitation was easily one of the saddest times I can remember and there were lines and lines of people coming to pay their respects to the family. It was a terrible loss and he was only eighteen years old. To John." - Nathan Piché (Article One)
