Delirious? started its journey playing for a monthly outreach service called Cutting Edge, which was put on by a church in Littlehampton, England. As the popularity of these events increased, the band also played at other "Cutting Edge" events along the South Coast reaching as far as Southampton. The music became well known in Christian circles, and demand grew for recordings. Four EPs were released under the Cutting Edge name before the group made the decision to turn professional and change their name to "Delirious?" in 1996. By that time, they had already sold over seventy thousand EPs by mail order. In 1998, Sparrow records in the United States released a composition of those 4 early EPs, calling it Cutting Edge.
The package comes in a 2-disc set with the first disc containing the first two EPs and the second disc containing numbers 3 and 4. It isn't hard to understand why many say that this music set the standard for modern worship. Delirious? classics like "Message of the Cross," "Lord, You Have My Heart," "I Could Sing of Your Love," and "Thank You For Saving Me" have found their way into church services across the continent. But the ballads weren't the only tracks that shined. The spiritual battering ram that is "Did You Feel The Mountains Tremble" and the bold "I'm Not Ashamed" became anthems for a generation seemingly lacking fresh musical influence.
All in all, Cutting Edge showcases some of Delirious?' best work, and is a great listen for both Delirious? fans and non-fans alike.
