This "Discover" series of EPs seem to be promoting some of Christian music's biggest artists today. Here, they're taking on one of the industry's most popular bands, Newsboys.
This short EP showcases a very strong selection of some of the Newsboys' biggest hits. The worshipful "He Reigns" opens, with the passionate "It Is You" following. "Entertaining Angels" is possibly the weakest track, but still one of the band's biggest hits during their transitional days in the late 90s.
"Shine," perhaps the band's most recognizable song, is easily known by its quirky lyrics and former lead singer John James' unique vocals. "Breakfast," another classic hit, is one of the strongest selections, while their cover of "Amazing Love" closes the EP.
Overall, this is a strong effort that redeems the flaws of other Discover EPs, possibly because the band has had a long history and it's thus easier to trace their biggest hits. However, for those who want a much bigger hits collection, check out their "Ultimate Collection" that was released in 2009. But for those who are new to the Newsboys, this EP would be an excellent way to introduce the Australian band (before Michael Tait took over lead vocals in 2009) that has had a major impact on CCM today.
