I must admit I was skeptical when I first started listening to Poor Man's Riches' Energy. In a time in the music industry where rock bands are a dime a dozen, it is hard to find any that stand out. However, Poor Man's Riches quickly won me over.
The title of the first track, "Energy" is a good description of the entire album. Each song contains driving guitar riffs and passionate vocals that seem to convey a sense of urgency. Unlike many albums of its kind, Energy is not overproduced and contains a rawness that makes it appealing and different.
Lyrically, the album is straightforward and simple. The band does not try to hide their faith and tackles issues like complacency, old life versus new life, and disbelief. There are also some great praise songs on the album such as "Hand of Grace," and "Praise You."
Poor Man's Riches is definitely one of the better Christian rock bands out today. Energy is an intense rock album that is encouraging and real. Fans of rock who are tired of hearing the same thing over and over will find Poor Man's Riches' Energy something to be excited about.
