My Epic
I Am Undone

Artist Info: Discography
Album length: 12 tracks: 58 minutes, 23 seconds
Street Date: August 5, 2008

My Epic is a trio from Charlotte, NC with a sound comparable to an indie version of Falling Up. Their first major release, I Am Undone is delivered courtesy of Facedown Records, and you can catch them currently touring with label mates Take It Back. In short, the album is pretty good and seems to have potential for the future. However, let's take a closer look for some details.

I Am Undone starts off with a prologue, which would be an alright addition if there was not an instrumental track added later on, two fillers that bump this ten song album up to twelve. I just don't care for fillers. Next up is "The Oil Press," which is arguably the best song on the album. It's an artistic display of lyrics about Christ choosing the cross for us, stating, "You went to the garden when You knew Your fate." The album progresses with "Lest We Die," one of the better tracks that is about humility, stating, "humble me until I am fully fine" and "there is a war within my fragile skin." As you can see, the band has a good writing ability, while tracks like "You Know We All Love You" display their talent musically. "You Became I," "Men In Little Houses," and "The Love & The Thief" are also good listens and showcase the band's skill very well.

Three of the last four tracks tend to fall pretty flat. They just seem to detract from what could have been a very good album. At times, you have to struggle to hear the vocals clearly which can deter listeners after hearing the album only once or twice. My Epic does experiment a little musically, but the sound doesn't always come off crisp. As said before, all in all this is still a pretty good album for a freshman release. I would expect to hear more from My Epic in the future as long as they keep writing good lyrics and clean up the production a little.
