In 2006, Chris Tomlin released See the Morning, the follow-up to his now platinum-certified album Arriving. Released alongside it was the special edition of the album, which includes some bonus tracks and a video interview. So is it worth buying?
To start off, the music on See the Morning is what it is: typical worship music. There's nothing especially good here, save for a few tracks ("Uncreated One," "Amazing Grace [My Chains are Gone]").
After the standard version ends, an acoustic version of "Enough" from Tomlin's Not to Us album starts off the bonus content. The stripped-down approach gives a refreshing take on the song. Acoustic versions of "Made to Worship" and "How Can I Keep From Singing" follow.
The last cut on the special edition is the original demo of "Over Me." The song is a step away from the usual worship genre, and the rawness of the recording really made it the stand-out track on the album.
Finally, there is a video feature that can be accessed through a computer. The feature is an interview with Tomlin and producer Ed Cash about the making of the album, and they talk about the stories behind a few of the songs. There is also some video footage from the recording of the album included. This is a cool treat for Tomlin fans.
All in all, if you're a Chris Tomlin enthusiast, then the special edition is certainly worth your buy. Otherwise, the standard version should suit you just fine, but it might not be a bad idea to download the extra tracks from iTunes.
