Steven Curtis Chapman Tribute Medley
(Various Artists)

Album length: 1 track: 6 Minutes, 18 Seconds
Street Date: April 25, 2006

When an artist makes as great as an impact on the Christian music scene, and even its artists, as much as Steven Curtis Chapman has, it's virtually a crime not to acknowledge them. When Steven earned his fiftieth Dove Award at 2006's 37th Annual GMA Music Awards ceremony, a surprise tribute was sprung on the artist in his honor.

Prominent contemporary male vocalists Jeremy Camp, Third Day's Mac Powell, David Crowder, and Casting Crowns' Mark Hall, sat perched on stools with only two acoustics for accompaniment as they serenaded the stunned CCM legend. Mark Hall opened the medley with "For The Sake Of The Call" with the other vocalists joining him for the classic's chorus. Mac Powell proceeded with a brief honor to Steven's wife Mary Beth as well before offering a tender and passionate rendition of "I Will Be Here." Powell's beautiful vocals complimented the popular wedding song, making it the highlight of the medley. Jeremy Camp, with guitar in hand, put a signature spin on "Magnificent Obession" from Chapman's Declaration, before David Crowder offered up a rousing acoustic take on "More to This Life." The medley came to a climactic finish with all four joining together as Powell urged the crowd to their feet for a single chorus of the upbeat pop anthem, "Dive."

The stripped-down approach was personal and meaningful, creating what would become the key moment of this year's GMA Music Awards. Fans of any of the aforementioned artists will definitely enjoy this little iTunes nugget. Now that our appetites are whet and our interest piqued, all we need is a full compilation of tribute songs honoring Mr. Chapman and his career...
