Where I Wanna Be by The Channelsurfers was pretty solid musically with elements of rock, pop, funk, and a little bit of metal thrown in. Lyrically, there was a little bit of a cheese factor, which they even addressed in the song "Cheese Review," in response to the reception of their 1997 debut, Tunnel Vision. However, that cheese factor is what made the music endearing to me.
Where I Wanna Be is an enjoyable listen for me even today, but some lyrical subject matter might be more polarizing by today's standards to those who are sensitive or easily offended. Much of the content is based on the Christian perspectives of the day (the late 90's). Other content, like what is in the song "More Lonely Guys," can be classified as just plain silliness.
I can only imagine the fun that these guys had making this record. Every time I listen to it, it puts me in a lighter mood and brings back good memories.
If you like Red Hot Chili Peppers, 311, or even Tenacious D, and aren't afraid to hear music from a Christian perspective, The Channelsurfers' 1997 release, Where I Wanna Be, might be something you'd enjoy as well.
