The Godkinz
The Godkinz

Album length: 15 tracks: 45 minutes, 5 seconds
Street Date: September 11, 2007

The Godkinz (as in a member of God's family) are three brothers from San Diego, California, and their debut album was recently released courtesy of Estilio Records. The Godkinz bring a smooth sound mixed with R&B, some hip-hop and a lot of soul. It's a good start for the group and a sign of potential for big things to come.

As the album starts, you immediately get the hip-hop, club raising feel from "Tilt Ya Hat." It's a fun lead track and would be worthy for play at any dance party. You'll find that "Friday" and "West Coast" are right in line with that category as well; the beats are great and the raps near perfect. You also won't be able to miss how much these guys are focused on the Lord. You'll hear Christ's name all over this album; on every single track.

On "Got To Feel" the vocals of the guys are tested as they go higher and higher and are actually reminiscent of The Jackson 5. "Many Words" is a smooth track about not having enough words to thank God for all that He is. "Is There One" is a great storytelling track that could have gone a little bit deeper, but does end with a listener being led in a salvation prayer. "Call Me" is about being the kind of friend that we all want and need; someone who is always there for you.

On the downside, it feels as if the album slows it down too much at times, and the choruses often become repetitive in a few tracks. However, this is an overall good start for The Godkinz. Their dedication to the Lord is fantastic. We shouldn't be surprised to be hearing more from this trio in the future.
