For those of you who don't know The Kry, I'd like to begin by saying that if you like Jars of Clay, Audio Adrenaline and The Afters, you'll probably like them too. Undone is a different album than the previous ones from The Kry, because the brit sound is more present and there are more high-pitched vocals than on its predecessors.
Undone begins with "Here," a simple song reminding us that we have to use wisely the time we're allotted on this Earth. Then comes "Maybe," a powerful song about the fact that nobody knows the time and the hour of Christ's return, as Lajoie sings: "Maybe tonight we will walk the streets of gold. Maybe tonight we'll be in Heaven." This song stands out on this record; the kind of song that most will like at first listen. "Only the love of God" is another soft, simple song talking about the power of the love of God. "Beautiful" is a totally different song with a brit sound and an upper tempo, beginning with a guitar riff that will stick in your head. "My Everything" then follows, a song that reminds us how much we need God in our lives. Musically, this is another great track where you can hear how this band really tries to bring different sounds to their songs. "Run to You" follows, a very effective guitar-driven rock song.
The second part of the album begins with "Why," a song that reminds me of "Gone" by Switchfoot by the way they use the title of the song in the chorus and by the lyrics that are really brilliant. This would probably be my favorite song of the record. On the other hand, "Spark Up the Flame" is the song I liked the least because of the repetition. "Lead Me On" is a very simple song about letting God lead our lives, with a nice bass line at the end. "All Over Again" is a very special track, calling the listeners to a brand new start in Jesus' arms. "Glorious" is a very effective worship song and is likely to appeal to even those who don't generally like worship music. The last song is the title track of the album, a slow-paced, contemplative song with Lajoie using his voice in a very high register.
Undone is definitely worth a listen. More than that, I'd say it's a piece of work made to be listened carefully in order to really appreciate it. It's not a "background music" album, so if that's what you're looking for, maybe you won't like it. But if you're looking for an introspective album with a God-centered message, this is just what you need.
