When my husband, Joe, arrived at his doctor’s office recently, he was surprised to see our son, John’s, in-laws there. As they chatted for a few minutes, my husband’s phone rang. It was John saying that his car wouldn’t start, and would his dad mind picking up his son, Will, from school? Since John’s in-laws had already seen the doctor, Joe asked them if they would pick Will up from school. They agreed, and my husband was able to keep his appointment with his doctor.
We all knew that this arrangement was by divine appointment. What were the chances that Will’s other grandparents were at the same doctor’s office at the same time as my husband when John’s car wouldn’t start? These appointments were made months in advance, so there’s no way that they could have been planned ahead of time. Afterwards, we all marveled at the goodness and greatness of our God.
Scripture says: “The steps of a [good] man are directed and established by the Lord when He delights in his way [and He busies Himself with his every step].” (Psalm 37:23 AMPC) This is God’s promise to His devoted ones that as we live our lives for Him, He literally “busies” Himself with each and every step we take. That means that God gets personally involved in our daily lives, and He is the One directing our paths. Does that mean that everything we do and everywhere we go is God’s will for us? No. We can override God’s best for us through willful disobedience. However, if we love and respect the Lord, He has promised to give us the desire and the power to obey Him, so that we can receive the fullness of His blessings. (Philippians 2:13 NLT)
One translation of Psalm 37:23 says: “The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.” (NLT) Believe and act as though God wants to be involved in every detail of your life. Share everything with Him. Invite Him into every aspect and area of your life. And watch Him show up in ways that will delight and amaze you!
Prayer: Lord, teach me how to invite Your involvement into every area of my life. Remind me often that You are interested in every detail that concerns me. Help me to never see You as a distant or indifferent God. Thank You for directing my steps so that I am always in the right place at the right time!
