I once read a quotation by C. S. Lewis that said, “Sometimes your reward for doing one task well is to be set with a harder and better one.” Since I have been walking with the Lord these past 30 years, I have discovered that this quote rings true – God often does reward us with a harder and better task or responsibility when we have proven ourselves faithful. (1 Timothy 1:12) The problem is that sometimes that newer assignment seems to pale in comparison to our old one. When that happens, we can become disappointed, disillusioned, and bewildered.
What we have to remember is that unlike God, we can’t see the ending from the beginning. (Isaiah 46:10) So we can’t see that up ahead of us in our new position are greater promotions and rewards than we ever dreamed possible. That is, if we respond to our new God-given assignments with an attitude of faith and obedience.
I know a man who lost his job, and had to take what he thought was a lesser job, just to support his family. The Lord blessed him with so many raises and bonuses in that new position, that he wound up making more money than he ever had before.
Perhaps you have heard that old saying, “Things aren’t always what they seem.” That’s one way to describe our walk of faith sometimes, and it is one reason why the apostle Paul said, “We walk by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7) So if you have suffered a loss, and have been given a new opportunity that seems less desirable and more difficult than what you had in the past, pray and believe that the Lord will work it out for your good (Romans 8:28) – and that the BEST is yet to come!
Prayer: Lord, whenever I suffer a loss or disappointment of any kind, help me to turn to You first for comfort, encouragement, and consolation. Give me Your divine perspective in the matter, and empower me to respond in a Christlike way. Open up new doors of opportunity for me, and give me supernatural favor with everyone involved. Thank You that as I walk by faith, and keep my trust in You and Your promises, I will reap a harvest of blessings and breakthroughs that will glorify You!
