JFH Devotionals by J.M. Farro

Nothing's Too Hard for Him

See how the siege ramps are built up to take the city. Because of the sword, famine and plague, the city will be handed over to the Babylonians who are attacking it. What you said has happened, as you now see. And though the city will be handed over to the Babylonians, you, O Sovereign Lord, say to me, "Buy the field with silver and have the transaction witnessed."

Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah: "I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?" - Jeremiah 32:24-26 NIV

God revealed to Jeremiah, His faithful prophet, that the Babylonians would conquer his nation and take his people captive. That was the bad news. The good news was that after a period of captivity, God would bring the people back to their homeland, where they would rebuild and prosper once again. Though Jerusalem is already surrounded, the Lord instructs Jeremiah to purchase a nearby field from his uncle. It must have been difficult for the prophet to publicly buy land which seemed like such a poor investment to everyone, but Jeremiah obeyed God. After he does, he is filled with doubt and turns to God in prayer for reassurance. It is then that the Lord reminds him that He is the God of the impossible.

Why did God have Jeremiah buy land at a time when Jerusalem was under siege by the Babylonians? He wanted the prophet to focus, not on the trials at hand, but on God's promise of restoration for the future. Jeremiah's purchase was an act of faith in God's promise. Perhaps today you're in a trial of your own and you're having doubts about God fulfilling His seemingly impossible promises to you. If so, I pray that you will be inspired by Jeremiah's example. God expects a lot from His children. He often asks us to demonstrate our trust in Him even when it seems that we are up against insurmountable odds. But let me reassure you today that if it takes a miracle for the Lord to fulfill His promises to you, our God is able and He will do it. Today, God is asking you--"Is anything too hard for Me?" If you can honestly answer Him, "No, Lord!" then your miracle is on its way!

Prayer: Lord, I thank You for all Your great and precious promises. I ask that You increase my measure of faith so that I'll be able to trust You even in the most difficult times. When I'm tempted to doubt, remind me that nothing is too hard for You. Help me to keep my eyes on Your promises instead of my problems. Thank You for Your faithfulness!
