For our 7th annual Highlighting feature, we split the year into TWO pieces -- January to June and July to December. Normally, we select our top 25 most anticipated releases for the whole year, but we realize that it's tough to really gauge EVERYTHING that may release throughout a given year when we're making the list in January. So, for 2012, we split the year into TWO pieces -- January to June and July to December, and we're using this format again for 2013. Also, each list contains 15 artists/releases for a total of 30 in total for 2013.
PLEASE NOTE:
We've already selected the first fifteen artists, so please click here to check those out. If you think an artist may be missing on this list, please keep in mind they may have made our list for the first half of the year before their release date was pushed back to the latter half of the year (like Switchfoot, Five Iron Frenzy and Relient K, for example). Without further ado, we give you Highlighting Second-Half 2013!

#7. John Mark McMillan
untitled
Release Date: Late 2013

Americana generally isn't one of my favorite genres, but I've been known to partake in it on occasion. John Mark McMillan is a consistent artist who is now on his own (as far as record labels go, that is). His first fan-funded album has me giddy for what he has in store for us...

Label? Who needs a label? Joining the parade of artists cutting the major label ties and crowdfunding their newest projects is John Mark McMillan, an artist whose visceral songwriting and gritty, Southern gothic spin on worship music has wowed us before. Billed on Kickstarter as his "Best Album Ever," this is one I will definitely be looking forward to.

John Mark McMillan has an impeccable track record with The Medicine and Economy being some of the best worship albums to be released in recent memory. He's a particularly dangerous artist to break from a record label, however, and that makes me all the more thrilled for his Kickstarter-funded album due out later this year.

To many, he may never be more than just the guy who wrote "How He Loves," but to others, JMM is one of the finest worship artists in the CCM scene. Now independent, a successful Kickstarter made possible McMillian's third studio release.
