Rapper and record label owner
Nathan Jarrelle released
Low Resolution 2 in 2023, but the original
Low Resolution released in 2022. As expected, Jarrelle proudly spits raps praising and glorifying God while also addressing sinful and toxic lifestyles (such as on "Own Good"). The album itself is low key in sound and steeped in R&B influence -- this may be most evident in the piano led track "Never Let Go," featuring Cold Illumination. Some of the album's most poignant lyrics also come from this track. Jarrelle raps, "
Jesus died for me so that must mean I'm worth something. An outcast to the world, but I'm worth something. Yeah, I'm hurt right now, but Heaven bound. So, to hell with all your lies; they won't keep me down." The entire song focuses on feelings of worthlessness and struggles, but sees Jesus as the hope and promise that we are so much more with Him. There are no big anthems or banger tracks present on this one, but there doesn't have to be.
Low Resolution boasts of style and substance instead of relying on flashy beats and other production tricks. In their place, Jarrelle provides an excellent flow for a short album that keeps the groove going throughout. The songs don't sound alike, but the album does have a certain feel. As demonstrated with
Beyond Your Reach, the production value here is solid as well. The mix is even and nice as Jarrelle and his team knows how to produce a solid hip-hop album. Nathan Jarrelle is a prolific artist who brings a new and different perspective than I've heard coming from most CHH music. I really appreciate the Christ-centric approach while never fearing to veer off into the darker side of humanity. Jarrelle is an artist that can address the toughest parts of life, but also proclaim the name and love of Christ like a worship song.
