The single version of "Unto Us," by
(the autumn), was released on the same day as
Sessions Vol, 1 featuring the live acoustic version. While
Sessions features a very stripped down version, the single features full instrumentation. (the autumn)'s Ali Roth leads a beautiful worship song here with very nice and complementary music. Some of the atmospheric sounds Chris Shalter started the band with are featured here as light pads play over the reverb on the acoustic guitar to open the song, along with Roth's gorgeous vocals. After the first verse, things open a little more with light drums and electric guitar. This sound continues throughout until the piano joins the track for a slight instrumental break and then builds big in the bridge. It's a well put-together composition from front to back. Lyrically, the song focuses on Jesus' authority as King and worshiping Him. Roth sings, "
Oh, Heaven roared and angles sing for unto us is Christ the King. O come behold our victory for unto is Christ the King," in the chorus. The song walks the line between a Christmas song and an everyday worship song nicely. While the beginning certainly focuses on the birth of Christ, it doesn't feel strictly like a Christmas song. However, this would be an excellent new and fresh song to insert into your own church's holiday services. (the autumn) is a group that is writing some really great and worshipful songs right now. You'll definitely want to hear what they are doing if you're a fan of modern worship music.
