There’s a train in the distance, calling my name

Where it leads, I just don’t know
With no help or assistance, I board just the same
No baggage or treasure to stow

Black smoke from the stack starts to roll
As the whistle calls out “time to go”
With a little persistence, we start our retreat
As the rat-a-tat rhythm takes hold

At the porter’s instance, I’ve chosen my seat
As we start down the track I can feel
No turning back, this is real
It may be tomorrow
Or maybe some day
Until then I’ll keep moving on
Ride into the sunset
As I make my way
To hopefully where I belong - hopefully home
If I stare out the window, the world races by

From a distance the blur seems so tame
As I gaze through the cabin catching everyone’s eye
They stare back at me just the same

You can guess for what’s coming, and hope with all might
And then one day the lesson is learned

That like us you’re just riding a train in the night
At the mercy of how the track turns
It may be tomorrow
Or maybe some day
Until then I’ll keep moving on
