Lyrics:
Glancing through the pane, In the September rain I am getting far away from everything, All the lies that you told, All the feelings I hold, I'm kissing them goodbye today, Chorus That's why I’m leaving town, I'm leaving town I don’t know where I’m headed, I'm spinning round and round Yes, I'm leaving town, No, you can't keep me down I've got to go (it’s time to go) I’m leaving town…
A thousand miles away From the things that you say, Getting closer to the place I long to be, I was crazy when I thought I could ever be enough I'm leaving all my fears behind Chorus Bridge It may take a while, to see me smile For time to scrape away all the pain All I've got are my dreams and a prayer, But that's enough to help me stay sane
I dreamt you're at my door Asked you what you came here for You're telling me that you're so sorry, I've forgiven what you've done, But my love's ready gone I've moved away from you completely Chorus (X2)
Behind the Song: We can all grow from a painful break-up, eventually learning that dwelling on the past is unhealthy. In my case, I ended up leaving town and had to start over again on my own. My friend, Ian Tanner, introduced me to this song, and it seemed to fit my situation closely. With his permission, I changed the words to fit my situation exactly. It is the perfect portrayal of how I felt when I decided to stop being a victim and take control of my first steps to a fuller life.
