Lyrics:
I realized last night That things weren't going right That the love we used to hold Seemed so very cold I thought you'd have respect For the love I always kept But now I realize That all your vows were lies Chorus So now I say goodbye I loved you, I can't lie It took time for me to see It won't work for you and me This is our last goodbye
I thought you cared for me I thought that you could see That the love I held for you Always would be true I tried to keep it going All the while still knowing That the bond I thought would last Was a remnant from the past Chorus
Behind the Song: When a relationship ends, particularly a marriage, the feelings of loss and devastation can be overwhelming. The finality of the break-up can be difficult to accept. This is a song I wrote with my life-long friend, Darrell, back when we were 13-years-old. Although it was born out of pre-teen angst, the words rang true to my situation when my own marriage of 30 years suddenly ended. It is the perfect start to this musical interpretation of my journey from divorce through darkness and, eventually, to happiness.
