Human 1998

We asked Mr. Vic Sapp of the new rock band, Organic Records' Human, a few questions. The interview was completed for your reading pleasure on May 30th, 1998.

Jesus freak Hideout: Why the name, "Human?"

Vic Sapp: We were going around and around about the name thing for months. We picked human because that's exactly what we are-- we're not God in anyway shape or form-- we are only "human"!

JFH: How did the band get started?

Vic: About five years ago, after playing music in the world, for the world, i had an empty feeling that I couldn't fill with anything the world had to offer. I could be in front of thousands of screaming people and still be as empty as a broken glass. I decided the Lord had given me the talent I have, so I vowed the rest of my life to make a difference through Jesus and music so I started forming what is now "human"...

JFH: How would you describe your sound?

Vic: We get that question a lot! The quick answer is: We're a rock & roll band... but the music goes a lot deeper than that. Out of the Dust has so many different flavors about it. You should listen to it and judge for yourself.

JFH: What bands have influenced your sound?

Vic: So many its hard to narrow it down. We just like good music!!!

JFH: You guys released your 1st album, Out of the Dust, this past fall, did you have any goals set while you were making it?

Vic: We wanted a record that didnt have a listening age limit. We wanted songs that people could sing after hearing them once. We wanted a record that "we" liked to listen to, and songs that will stand the test of time. I really think we got all the above!

JFH: What inspired the song "Fat Man Delicacy?"

Vic:Great song! My brother, Carl, wrote that one. Read Proverbs 23:1-3 and you'll understand.

JFH: The song on track five after "Hand Me Down" (also on track 5) isn't listed on the CD at all. What is the name of the song, what is it about, & why didn't you list it? (sorry for all the questions there)

Vic: The name of the song is: "Bullet the Blue Sky" and it was written by "Bono" and "The Edge" of the band U2. There's no great hidden meaning for us covering the song. We just wanted to record it our way.

JFH: What is the song "Lemonade" about?

Vic: Actully we just finished shooting a video for lemonade. It should be out real soon! We had a blast making it too. The song has a very simple, yet thought provoking, meaning. When things are at their worst, Christ is always there for us. Everything is for a season (when life hands you a bag of lemons, MAKE LEMONADE)!!!

JFH: What is your favorite "Human" song?

Vic: Another good question! I love the whole album, but if someone was holding a gun to my playing fingers, I would say my favorite to listen to would be "Disguise" and the funnest to play live is "I.O.U."

JFH: What's your favorite movie?

Vic: Spinal Tap, of course!!!

JFH: Do you prefer Mountain Dew or Surge?

Vic: We're a rock & roll band-- S U R G E!!!

JFH: While on the road, what's your favorite place to eat?

Vic: Sea food.

JFH: What does the future hold in store for Human?

Vic: To follow the plan of God, keep in a forward motion, and write more great Human music!!!

JFH: The Jesus freak Hideout site was started out of appreciation for good Christian music. We've set a goal to try to use the site to spread Christian music, as well as God's Word, & show others how great Christian music can be. Do you listen to Christian music? If so, what bands?

Vic: Sure we listen to christian music! i guess some of the bands i think are cool would be: Channel Surfers, Audio A., dc Talk, Whiteheart, Lloyd, Speck, and an unsigned band named "Animal Couch."

JFH: I really appreciate you taking out the time in your busy schedule to answer some questions for us. Are there any last comments you'd like to make?

Vic: You guys look for us on tour in your city real soon. The CD is great-- pick it up wherever you get your music from. If you like it (I Know You Will!)-- tell a friend, if you dont like it-- use it as a frisbee!!!!!!!!! Remember, Jesus is the only reason. -- v i c s a p p (human)
