Behind the Song:
'We wanted to write a song that was a personal testimony of our experience with dating – or I should say, not dating. We came up with this line, So what, I’m not your average girl, and that inspired the song right there. We’ve actually written 4 choruses to this song. When we were recording, I was laying down the vocals to Average Girl, and when I was about to lay down the third and newest chorus, I stood in front of the mic, and I said to our producer, “Otto, I can’t sing this song. I just don’t feel it. It just doesn’t really communicate what we want to say.” So we pulled out the guitar and within ten minutes we had the 4th and final chorus.' - Lauren Barlow (BarlowGirl)
