I didn't expect the sorrow
I didn't expect the pain
I didn't expect the heartache
I didn't expect the shame
It takes guts and it takes medicine
To make it through the day
When things just don't go my way
It draws blood and apologies again
If I had the chance to run away
To get out of this dance or to stay...
I'd do it all again.
(You know I'd do it all again)
Cause I still ache to hold your hand
(You know I'd do it all again)
I didn't expect the changes
I didn't expect this place
I didn't expect forgiveness
And I sure didn't expect your grace
It takes love made in a larger size
To make it through the day
You put up with my displays
It hurts pride and it takes compromise
If you had the chance to run away
To get out of this dance or to stay...
I hope you'd do it all again
(You know I'd do it all again)
Cause I still wanna be your man
(You know I'd do it all again)
You put a kink in all my plans
(You know I'd do it all again)
It's so much better than I planned
(You know I'd do it all again)

Behind the Song:"Our reality often lives in tension with our expectations. We expect
certain things from our relationships, our careers, our daily
schedules. However, it is the unexpected that will have the bigger
impact on our lives. This particular song reflects my struggle with
growing into my role as a husband and father. I thought you just
'grew up' and it was as easy as having birthdays. I didn't realize it
would be such a difficult process of change. The biggest surprise
was the continual payoff from going into those painful places and
doing the work that needed to be done to become the man I wanted
to be. Unfortunately, I learn best from my mistakes, thus the line
directed toward my wife, 'I hope you'd do it all again'. Her patience
with me is astounding and binds me to her with a love that is
unexpected..." - Eric Champion
