Seattle, WA...August 31, 2009...Since 2002, BEC Recordings' Kutless have become a household name with radio hits such as "Sea of Faces," "Run," "Strong Tower," and "To Know That You're Alive." This week the band crossed another career milestone as they were awarded RIAA Gold Certification for their worship-based album "Strong Tower" in addition to Gold Certification for Long-Form video "Live From Portland." This certification is on the heels of the forthcoming "It Is Well" album set to release on BEC Recordings on October 20th.
"Having Kutless as part of our BEC roster for the past seven years has been awesome," shares President and CEO of Tooth & Nail Records Brandon Ebel. "We knew this project was special when it released. This certification is just another confirmation that Kutless has the ability to reach thousands upon thousands with their music and hearts. The label celebrates this accomplishment with the band recognizing the huge impact 'Strong Tower' had on listeners across the board."
"Strong Tower" was a special project for Kutless' fans, and the band anticipates that "It Is Well" will resonate similarly with their listeners. The band spent much time in prayer about doing a second worship-oriented project. Drummer Jeffery Gilbert shares, "We have no doubt that this record is a result of where God has us right now, and I am excited to see how it impacts people in the near future."
"It Is Well," has become one of the band's favorite classic hymns resulting in the album title. This 19th century hymn was reconstructed in true Kutless manner with respect to the history behind the song. It is said that composer Horatio Spafford penned the words to the poignant hymn as he viewed the location where his four daughters were killed in a shipwreck. It is such a powerful message, Sumrall says, "To know that despite the turmoil of the world, 'It Is Well.'"
Radio listeners will soon get a taste of the new CD with the radio single "What Faith Can Do," which was just serviced to radio. BEC Recordings also just unveiled the track listing and album cover here. In addition, Kutless will be playing around the country throughout the fall. "It Is Well" was recorded in Kutless' home state of Oregon with engineer/producer Dave Lubben along with Grammy-Award winning producer Brown Bannister.
About Kutless
Launched by original members Jon Micah Sumrall (lead vocals) and guitarist James Mead, the band formed first as a modern rock/worship band at Warner Pacific College in Portland in 2000, influenced by Christian rock predecessors such as the Supertones as well as mainstream modern rockers like Staind, Foo Fighters, and Incubus. Kutless signed to Tooth & Nail/BEC in late 2001 and released its self-titled debut the following year, which went on to become the fastest-selling debut in the label's history. Hearts of the Innocent marked the recording debut of the band's new members, drummer Jeffrey Gilbert and bass player Dave Luetkenhoelter, both formerly of alt-rock band Seven Places. In 2007, Nick De Partee joined the band as the new guitarist after being with the band for over a year as their guitar tech.
This Portland, Oregon-based Kutless has emerged as one of Christian and rock music's hottest acts. Kutless has played before more than 2 million fans in the past five years. The band has been nominated for multiple Dove Awards, earning its first for the band's participation on the Special Event Album of the Year, the soundtrack to "Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe." Kutless' music also has been featured in television and film. The Kutless song "All of the Words" appeared on the NBC hit TV show "Scrubs," in an episode titled "My Bright Idea." Last year, the band's song "The Feeling" was featured on the Rock Band 2 downloadable track for Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii.
