DALLAS—Singer/songwriter, author and speaker Tammy Trent was named Inspirational Female Vocalist of the Year at the Christian Music Hall of Fame 2009 Visionary Awards Show, held recently in Frisco, Texas. Trent performed “Edge of the Water,” from her latest recording Stronger, during the ceremony.

Additional 2009 Christian Music Hall of Fame Visionary Award winners included Natalie Grant, MercyMe, Kirk Franklin and Brandon Heath, among others. 2009 Hall of Fame inductees included dcTalk, Yolanda Adams, Larnelle Harris, and Crystal Gayle, while iconic country entertainer June Carter Cash was inducted posthumously.

Trent’s fifth studio recording, Stronger, released last year. Produced by Dove Award-winner Bernie Herms, as well as Doug Bieden, Stephen Marshall and Brian Steckler, the album is a celebration of Trent’s hope and trust in Christ and an acknowledgment of His sovereignty through seasons of sorrow and joy.

Since 1995, Trent has been a familiar voice on Christian radio with a string of hits, including “My Irreplaceable” and “Welcome Home.” She stepped away from the spotlight in 2001 after the tragic death of her husband in a diving accident, returning as a featured speaker and performer at Women Of Faith conferences in 2003. Trent spent four years with Women of Faith and has also been a featured speaker and performer on the organizations’s Revolve Tour for teen girls. She is the author of Learning To Breathe Again: Choosing Life and Finding Hope After A Shattering Loss (W Publishing), and Beyond Sorrow: There’s Hope in the Promises of God (J. Countryman).

The Christian Music Hall of Fame and Museum honors those who have spent their lives celebrating Christ through music. Visionary Award nominees are selected by a peer group consisting of approximately 4800 members. (www.hallmuseum.com)
