MINNEAPOLIS— Acclaimed family entertainers Go Fish return August 10 with Kickin’ It Old School (gfk Records), the group’s first new recording in two years. Produced by Go Fish’s Jamie Statema, along with Darren Rust and Scott Williamson, Kickin’ It Old School is designed to show kids that “your grandparents’ music is cooler than you think,” bringing the group’s signature arrangements to nine popular hymns, as well as the original title-cut.
Highlights of the project include “Sweet Song Of Salvation/I Love To Tell The Story”; “This Is My Father’s World”; “Blessed Assurance”; and “I’ll Fly Away.” In addition, Go Fish is joined by Denver & The Mile High Orchestra for a big band rendition of “The Solid Rock,” while the Statema-penned “Kickin’ It Old School” opens the album with a retro hip hop send-up to the importance of a Biblical worldview.
“More than anything we’ve ever done, Kickin’ It Old School is definitely God-focused,” says Go Fish founding member Jamie Statema. “For us it isn’t just about singing old songs, it is about teaching kids that the Truth is in the Bible.”
Since the release of their 2003 children’s music debut, Splash, Go Fish has been committed to making “great music for kids that won’t drive parents bonkers.” Covered by such national media as the “Today” Show, American Profile and Focus on the Family magazine, among other outlets, Go Fish’s live performances have attracted sell-out crowds across the country, including an audience of 14,000 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. Additionally, a fan-produced video of the group's popular song, “Christmas With A Capital ‘C’” (featuring comedian Brad Stine), has been viewed on YouTube more than 15 million times.
Go Fish’s “Backstage With The Bible: A Vacation Bible School Experience” curriculum has been used in more than 1,000 churches in the United States and Canada since its release last year. The “Kickin’ It Old School” 2011 VBS curriculum is slated to release this fall.
Kickin’ It Old School, a gfk Records release, will be available August 10 at select retail outlets nationwide and at www.gofishguys.com. Retailers can contact Marty Drury at marty@gofishguys.com for ordering information.
