Nashville, TN – (April 8, 2011) – Fervent Records’ hot debut artist Chris August shows no signs of cooling off as he scores the coveted Songwriter Of The Year Dove Award nomination, bringing him up to a total of six Dove Award nominations including the previously announced categories: New Artist Of The Year, Male Vocalist Of The Year, Pop/Contemporary Album Of The Year for his shining debut album No Far Away, Song Of The Year and Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song Of The Year for his chart-topping hit "Starry Night." The Texas native is the most nominated New Artist this year at the 42nd Annual Dove Awards.
“What an honor it is to be recognized as a songwriter and even more so to be nominated alongside some of the industry’s finest, is quite humbling,” shared August. “I absolutely love writing music and am truly thankful and honored to be included in this esteemed category.”
The 42nd Annual Dove Awards show will be taped live at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, GA, on April 20th and broadcast on The Gospel Music Channel (GMC) on Sunday, April 24th at 7:00 p.m. EST.
This nomination comes on the heels of August’s current hit single “7x70,” landing in the Top 5 on the Christian/AC Indicator chart. “7x70” is also from the singer-songwriter’s break-through debut album, No Far Away, which is available everywhere now.
A vulnerable ballad about forgiveness that was influenced by his parents divorcing when he was in fifth grade, “7x70” is the follow-up to August’s debut single “Starry Night,” which hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Christian/AC chart in September and stayed put for six weeks, launching this self-taught pianist, guitarist, and producer as an artist in his own right. August had previously toured as the keyboard player and opening act for pop sensation Ashlee Simpson and worked with Ryan Cabrera, Brian McKnight, and Jessica Simpson before shifting his focus to a solo career. He has put his refined skill-set to work by co-producing No Far Away with acclaimed producer Ed Cash, resulting in an emotionally resonant collection of soulful pop-rock sing-alongs, touching balladry, and heart-on-sleeve lyricism that has become the best-selling New Artist release in the Christian genre in 2010.
