(NASHVILLE, Tennessee) -- Growing Pains, the new album from Christian rap artist Json, hits stores this week via Lamp Mode Recordings and Central South/Infinity Music Distribution. The highly anticipated album features collaborations with Lecrae, Mikeschair, Benjah, Jai and more.
Json's 2010 release, City Lights, soared to the #1 spot on Amazon.com's Christian chart, and to #4 on the iTunes Hip-Hop chart. In the past two years, he has hit the road, performing over 100 concert dates annually, while appearing on film in the Reach Records short film Man Up, and the theatrical release Dreams, starring Angie Stone and Vickie Winans.
Jason "Json" Watson was born and raised in St. Louis by a single mother, who despite her best intentions, was often absent as she struggled with a drug addiction. Throughout his adolescence and teenage years, Json looked for guidance in the streets where he was exposed to violence and drugs, including heroin and marijuana. By the age of 16, he had been kicked out of school, served jail time and become a member of a local gang. Fully immersed in this lifestyle, he found himself back in prison at 18, serving several months on another drug charge.
Json says that God used this time to deal with his heart, and though he did not immediately relinquish his old ways, he began to understand that God was real and that there was more to life than what he had come to know.
Now 30 years old, married and a father of three, Json shares his story and the lessons learned through rap. "Growing Pains is the most therapeutic album I have written, says Json. "God used the writing on the album to allow me to focus not on the current situation, but how God may be working for the outcome."
