NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 13, 2013) - More than 420 backers have partnered with legendary vocalist John Schlitt to help fund his next music project, an as-yet-untitled Christmas album. The Grammy and Dove Award winner, who utilized the popular crowd funding platform Kickstarter, surpassed his goal of $35,000 when the Kickstarter campaign officially ended June 8. The final amount of pledges totaled $40,066, 114 percent of the original goal.

"We did it! Together, we have met and exceeded our goal to make my first-ever Christmas album," Schlitt says. "To everyone who pledged, I want to say 'It's your project as much as mine!' Thank you!" Schlitt, who has never recorded any Christmas music, neither during his 20-year stint as the lead singer of Petra nor as a solo artist, says he has been feeling "a very strong tug" to make this seasonal record.

The majority of the CD, according to Schlitt, will consist of traditional Christmas songs done "John Schlitt style," along with several new songs. "My desire is that this Christmas album will be very different-and very special," he says.

Supporters chose from a variety of incentives, depending on the pledge level, including a cookbook filled with the Schlitt family's favorite holiday recipes, advance downloads of the CD, vintage Petra tour T-shirts, autographed wooden Christmas ornaments hand crafted by Schlitt, the chance to join Schlitt in a Nashville studio for a recording session-and Dorla Schlitt's famous homemade Christmas cookies! Although the Kickstarter campaign has officially ended, pledges are still being accepted and rewards are still being offered. To find out more, contact Sue Dempster in Schlitt's office at Sue@johnwschlitt.com. For more information about Schlitt and the new Christmas project, visit johnwschlitt.com.

He has been inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame as the lead singer of Petra during the years when the band won 10 Dove Awards and four Grammy Awards. Since Schlitt released his fourth solo CD, The Greater Cause, in May 2012, the legendary vocalist's busy schedule has included appearances on The Mike Huckabee Show, 700 Club Interactive and the Faith & Freedom Celebration-the faith-based kick-off to the Republican National Convention, as well as extensive international touring.
