Singer/songwriter Jason Whitehorn independently released his debut worship & A/C-Inspo album September 22nd.  The anticipated album As Long As I Have Breath was released on REST Music with distribution through Worship Storytellers and was produced in London, UK by Matt Osgood (worshipsongrecording.com) The album features some CCM friends within its tracks and, according to Whitehorn, might have never happened had it not been for some surprise attention to one of the songs on the album.

One of the ballads on the album, “Never Alone” was formed out of a personal struggle Jason had with the sudden death of his mother and his resolve with understanding God’s sovereignty in it.

“I was planning songs with my lead pastor one day and he knew that I had been working on this song. He told me he needed that song to be sung during his message. So we did it. It had always been personal to me. Now, I was sharing a very vulnerable thing to the world” Whitehorn recalls.

It didn’t take long for the song to spread. “Never Alone” was released to radio and, soon after, the stories came flooding in.

“People were using the song at funerals, at weddings, during the birth of a baby in a delivery room, to minister to those suffering from depression and those who lost loved ones to suicide,” remarked Whitehorn. “It was overwhelming to hear how God was using a song that began as a simple sung prayer.”

The album has some special friends along the way. The title track “As Long As I have Breath” has the soulful Hammond B3 organ sounds contributed by Scotty Wilbanks (Third Day). The final song on the album, “Welcome Home” has a beautiful cello accompaniment from Brent Milligan (Steven Curtis Chapman/Michael W. Smith).

One track, “It Is Well” features a throw-back to one of Whitehorn’s favorite influences – Rich Mullins.

“Rich always played a beautiful hammered dulcimer. I knew that I wanted that same sound somewhere on this album,” said Whitehorn. “Someone showed me a viral video of this guy named Ted Yoder playing ‘Everybody Wants to Rule the World’ by Tears for Fears on the hammered dulcimer and it sounded just like Rich. We reached out to Ted…and he was kind enough to add his beauty to the album.”

The album is currently available via iTunes, Google Play, Amazon, etc as well as physical distribution.
