Tooth & Nail Rock band We Are The City announced on Friday that they have decided to hang up their collective instruments. Along with the news of their disbanding came the announcement of an Oct. 23rd final livestream show and a new, final single that released on Sunday. The band released their latest, and final, album this past January, appropriately titled RIP.
The band writes:
RIP WE ARE THE CITY
We are sad to announce that We Are The City is over.
We are so grateful to you, our loyal fans, for making our dreams come true for 12 years. We're immensely proud of everything we've done and we will continue to be best friends forever. While our personal relationships remain blissfully intact, our creative paths have diverged.
We Are The City died of natural causes. Nothing goes on forever and it is important for us to recognize that the band reached its peak and it is time to call it. We Are The City has been a glorious chapter for the three of us. What an awesome ride.
We'll host one final event on October 23 — RIP We Are The City: A Live Streamed Celebration of Life. Tickets are at wearethecity.ca
We'll release one final song on Sunday October 11 — "Lover Is Dead."
After that, there will be no more from We Are The City. But we'll see you again soon. The future is wide open.
About the new song, "Lover is Dead," the band also wrote (on Monday, Oct. 12):
Well, this is it. Our last track, "Lover Is Dead," is out now. We have been floored by the outpouring of love we've received in the last 48 hours. We feel carried by all of you and this really has always been the case.
The song was completed for RIP but was taken off the final tracklist and stored away, waiting for its turn to see the light. In hindsight it couldn't have been a better choice to save it. It's about the end of an era and so truly captures a sense of pain and loss, moving into a new phase of life, leaving a part of yourself behind. To those who care, in a time of change. Love will never die, but everything comes to an end.
