September 23, 2022 (Nashville, TN) — The multi-ethnic, multi-cultural music group Common Hymnal releases “Rocks,” a new powerful song, to digital platforms today.

This diverse collective of musicians, singers, and songwriters known as Common Hymnal will continue to embrace and advance praise and protest. Socially conscious and Christ-centered, Common Hymnal was created to help believers navigate today's uncertain times through worship and song.

The forward-thinking collective of artists and songwriters collaborate around the common goal of worshiping with a social conscience. Addressing real-life issues and urging vital conversation within the American Christian culture is the backdrop to "ROCKS." Partnering with activist, minister, and executive director of LiveFreeUSA, Pastor Mike McBride, Common Hymnal releases “Rocks” to all digital platforms today, September 23.

“Rocks,” co-written by McBride and Common Hymnal, is an atypical 'gospel song' inspired by a robust 1984 speech by Jesse Jackson. The then Presidential candidate, Jackson, in a now iconic speech titled “Rocks Just Laying Around,” talked to Black voters about their civic responsibility at the ballot box, likening the ability to vote to rocks lying on the ground that needed to be used to defeat the goliaths (i.e., injustice, voter suppression, systemic racism) of the day.

Driven by the abiding belief that voting rights are one of today's pressing social justice issues, McBride and Common Hymnal, jumped into the writing room to craft this compelling new song.

Given today's fractured and divisive political climate, the midterm elections are critically important. Common Hymnal will use its voice to join Pastor Mike McBride on the SONGS OF JUSTICE & HEALING CONCERT EXPERIENCE, a free tour to promote justice, healing, and empowerment ahead of the November elections. Common Hymnal will perform in Detroit, Atlanta, and Dallas.
