(New York, NY) Nashville-based rock band, Colony House, has announced their fourth full-length studio album, The Cannonballers, out February 3rd, 2023. The news is accompanied by the release of the single, “Landlocked Surf Rock,” an apt description of the band’s signature sound and a tribute to their home state of Tennessee.

“We've always struggled to put a label on Colony House or at least be defined by one singular genre... That was until we uncovered this one minute and fifty-four-second little ditty,” frontman Caleb Chapman explains. “With half of us being Nashville natives and all of us being Tennessee natives, we wanted to write a love letter to our hometown and all of its charm and all of its absurdities. ‘LandLocked Surf Rock’ is our ‘Sweet Home Alabama’... There, I said it.”

Caleb was inspired to write the songs that became The Cannonballers while being locked down at home in 2020. “The pandemic was the first time since high school that I had been off the road for an entire year. We got to see the seasons change and experience our home again for the first time in a long time,” he says. “I think I was falling back in love with Tennessee and realizing how special it is to be born and raised in such a beautiful place.”

Comprised of Caleb Chapman (vocals, guitar), his brother Will Chapman (drums), Scott Mills (guitar), and Parke Cottrell (bass), Colony House has continued to unite fans under its banner of hope and light in a world that feels more divided every day. No frills, no gimmicks. Just heart-level rock and roll music. The Colony House catalog is as weighty and intelligent as it is light and approachable. Three previously released studio albums invite the listener on a journey through stories of loss, grief, and heartbreak while welcoming them into the hope that comes on the other side. Their 2014 debut, When I Was Younger, included the instantly popular single “Silhouettes,” which became the #1 most played track on Sirius XM’s Alt Nation for four months straight. The band followed with their sophomore album, Only the Lonely, whose title and demeanor pay tribute to the vintage sounds of Roy Orbison and the Beach Boys. The surf-rock hit, “You Know It,” reached mega-viral status on Tik Tok, and has vaulted to over 100 million streams across all platforms after being featured as the soundtrack to Samsung Mobile’s nationwide ad campaign. The band has performed their songs for worldwide audiences with two appearances on both Late Night with Seth Meyers and CONAN, as well as The Today Show, VH1’s “Morning Buzz,” and MTV Live.

The band’s third effort, Leave What’s Lost Behind, was released in January of 2020, before a global pandemic would challenge listeners to do just that. They managed to make it through half of their headline tour before being forced to pause alongside the rest of the world. Like many artists, they found different ways to continue to create. In addition to beginning work on The Cannonballers, Colony House produced and directed a full-length feature film, Everybody’s Looking For Some Light, which was an official selection at the Nashville and Knoxville Film Festivals. The movie debuted at a two-day drive-in event produced by the band at Greystone Quarry in Franklin, TN. Over 2,000 people (in over 600 cars) showed up to watch the film and see Colony House perform.

Last year saw the release of Colony House Live, Vol. 1, and the EP, Rotten Tomatoes. In support of that EP, they were able to return to the road, headlining 30 dates in the US before their first overseas headline tour in 2022. They have also been part of several festival lineups, including Shaky Knees, Austin City Limits, Firefly, WonderBus, and Lollapalooza.

The recent single, “Cannonballers,” was Colony House’s first offering of 2022. The single premiered on Sirius XM's Alt Nation Advanced Placement, and the video has amassed over 300k views in under a month. Propelled by a guitar riff recalling a roller coaster's thrilling twists and turns, the song left listeners eager to hop back in line for another ride. The album title came from that amusement park muse - the Wabash Cannonball at Opryland USA - as well as the representation of duality that all people embody and experience.

The Cannonballers almost felt like another band name, an alter ego… on the one hand, a cannonballer could be a carefree kid, jumping through the air and finding their purpose in the size of splash they can create by jumping into a pool. They have all the time in the world. There is a beautiful naivety to that; it is simple and youthful,” expounds Caleb. “On the other hand, a cannonballer could be a road rallyist who enjoys speeding on the open road. A driver with complete disregard for authority. Someone who is in a hurry and needs that adrenaline kick to keep going.” He continues, “I think we are a pendulum swinging in the balance between these two characters. On any given day, we could be one or the other.”

The Cannonballers drops on February 3rd, 2023, and is now available to pre-save.
