April 12th, 2024 (Atlanta, GA), a year after the release of his breakout single, "God Made A Way," rising Mexican-American artist WHATUPRG drops a double single for his first new release of 2024 featuring a track alongside a remix for "God Made A Way" ft. Lecrae and nobigdyl. Listen to "THIS TIME LAST YEAR" here.

2022 for WHATUPRG was a pivotal year in his life personally and professionally. Leading up to the release of his debut album, "New Hollywood," he was starting to see the fruit of overcoming depression, doubt and anxiety. On that album, he spoke to the victory he claimed by God’s grace. Rolling into 2023, he was marching to a different beat. Sober, faithful and hopeful, RG (Raul Garcia) reflected on how far he had come and a new record came to life, "God Made A Way." The song quickly became the soundtrack to triumph for RG and his fans as they shared stories and celebrated the faithfulness of God in their life. That song has become RG’s best performing song and continues to resonate worldwide.

Fast forward to 2024, WHATUPRG is now married, joining his friends and christian artist peers KB, Limoblaze and nobigdyl. On the Glory Nights Tour and releasing new music. At the beginning of this year, RG was focusing on his health and participating in the well known fitness challenge, “75 Hard.” During that time he found himself multitasking by listening to beats and writing in his head potential melodies. As he listened the line “This Time Last Year” stuck in his head and the melody soon followed. RG began to think about the past year of his life and how much further he's come even after such a monumental year of growth in 2022. RG felt humbled and grateful all over again bringing him back to the same place he was in when he wrote “God Made A Way.”

Produced by Caleb Cruize and Quinten Colbletz, "This Time Last Year" ,similarly to "God Made A Way," is a fast paced record from WHATUPRG working in fresh cadences and lyricism speaking on just how far God has brought him since the release of "God Made A Way." The Remix hits the same chord as the original with some new flavor brought in by Lecrae and nobigdyl. with them each adding their own 16 bars to the record. One year after the release of "God Made A Way" this is a full circle moment for WHATUPRG. Being able to get Lecrae, someone who motivated him growing up to even pursue music, and nobigdyl., someone who helped RG build his career as an artist during his time with the collective, "Indie Tribe, " was surreal for RG and blows him away every time he goes back and listens.

“Both of these records are a celebration of what God has done in my life. I hope they encourage people listening to continue to reflect and do this in their own life,” says WHATUPRG. “Being able to work with two of my heroes (Lecrae and nobigdyl.) is a huge honor and I truly don’t know how to express what it means to me. Everytime I listen I am still blown away that it is real. What they brought to the record truly continues the story and elevates the experience. I hope people have the same experience I did when they hear it.” Healthy mentally, physically and spiritually, WHATUPRG is poised and excited to create and continue engaging with his fans. Having his loyal fanbase behind him, there is nowhere God can't take the movement.

About Reach Records:

Reach Records is an Atlanta based independent hip-hop label founded in 2004 by Lecrae and Ben Washer. Long before acclaim, awards, plaques, chart positioning, and radio play, the two started the label because they both love hip-hop and Jesus. Reach Records was launched with no strategy, no funds, no big players, but they made big moves! Today Reach Records is a trailblazing label with a roster of nearly 10 artists and a staff of 20 who are unashamed about sharing their faith and passionate about hip-hop. Reach Records is committed to building a movement that combines faith with music and popular culture.
