FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — Behold the Beloved drew heavily on the galvanizing energy of hockey games to fuel “Powerplay,” an arena-ready rock single that empowers listeners towards victory over fear. The single is available now with its corresponding music video at youtube.com/watch?v=t2O96QVc2QE.
“Three of our band members are Canadian, so hockey is a pretty big deal,” singer Sean Green explains. “This song started with the line ‘put death in the box.’”
Even the title “Powerplay” is derived from hockey. For the unfamiliar, Sean explains, “In hockey, a powerplay is when one team gets a penalty and loses a player on the ice. Thus the other team now has an extra player on the ice, making it 5 on 4.”
“We as Christians have the upper hand on Satan,” the singer and songwriter continues. “We have the extra man, and His name is Jesus. He died and rose again and put death in a box. Even with that advantage, Satan will still bring trials and hardships our way. He will knock at our door, trying to steal our joy and soul. It’s the game of life, a grudge match, being face-to-face against the enemy.”
The song itself was written by a power-packed team including Josiah Prince and Andrew Stanton of Disciple. Each member of Behold the Beloved brought their A-game, with Sean Green on vocals, Jeff Lehman and Jason Stauffer on guitar, Tim Kitchen on bass and Sheldon Stauffer on drums. Jon Sambrick of Thornwall Studios mixed “Powerplay,” and Jeff McKinnon mastered it.
The result is a song that muscles its way through an empowering call to action, whether it’s in the hockey arena or the arena of life. Full-bore guitar riffs propel instantly memorable lyrics:
“We won’t be pushed around, we will never quit
We’ll take it to the edge, fighting for every inch
We’ll keep our head up high, Yahweh is on our side
Wind up this shot, death in the box
We’re on the powerplay.”
“We want the listener to feel empowered and encouraged. To use this song as a reminder about the power they have in Jesus and the strength He provides,” Sean Green earnestly concludes. “We have a heavy sense of sharing about standing firm on the truth and trying to open people’s eyes to what's happening around them. Encouraging them to lean into Jesus and dive deeper into His word, to ultimately strengthen their personal relationship with Him. To be equipped and ready for what life brings them next.”
“Powerplay” is available everywhere now. Sports licensing inquiries can be sent to beholdthebeloved[at]gmail.com. For more about the band, visit beholdthebelovedmusic.com, or follow them on Facebook and Instagram.
