NASHVILLE, TENN. (APRIL 15, 2025) Multi-platinum modern worship artist Phil Wickham released a brand new song, "What an Awesome God," last Friday. Co-writers Wickham and Jonathan Smith created this song with fresh verses to the chorus of the world-renowned Rich Mullins song, "Awesome God." This new version includes the chorus we all love with a new production and interpretation of the song. In 2004, CCM Magazine named “Awesome God” one of the greatest songs in Christian music history. With modern beats and a big choir sound, Wickham brings this classic worship song to a new generation. Listen to "What an Awesome God" here.
“It’s hard to even describe what it means to me to share a small part of the legacy of this song," shares Phil Wickham. "What started as a fun idea in the studio grew into an unexpected new take on the 'Awesome God' story. It has quickly become one of my favorite songs to sing with the church, proudly declaring each night how awesome our God is! I’m honored to share this song with you all, and I pray that in the midst of your day, it helps you recognize 'What An Awesome God' we serve!”
Earlier this year, Wickham released his largest debut to date with his most recent single, "The King Is In The Room," which is already in the Top 20 on Christian radio with 66 stations airing. These two singles follow his 2024 GRAMMY-nominated album, I Believe, which went No. 1 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart. He will continue to release new music throughout this year.
With only four dates remaining of Wickham's Singalong Tour, you can find him this summer on the Summer Worship Nights Tour with Brandon Lake, followed by the Air1 Worship Now Tour. Due to such high demand this year, 360-seating was added in every market possible for the Summer Worship Nights Tour. See his complete tour schedule here.
