Matt Sassano’s new single “My Armor,” dropping May 16, is a raw, high-impact tribute to the people who never walked away. Whether it was a parent, a partner, a friend, or a mentor—this is for the ones who stayed when the world turned upside down.
Produced by Grammy-nominated Josiah Prince of Disciple, mixed by Jared Langford (Nine Lashes), and mastered by Sam Moses, “My Armor” blends heavy guitars, cinematic atmosphere, and lyrics that hit hard and hold nothing back.
“You’ve walked with me through fire.
And every time the storms are closing in,
you stand beside me—we face the lightning.”
The inspiration comes from Sassano’s own journey. Born with cerebral palsy and dyscalculia, he’s fought through physical challenges, anxiety, trauma, and isolation. Through all of it, his mother, Janelle Lynn Cox, rode through the pain with him.
“She didn’t just support me—she walked through it with me,” Sassano says. “Most people wait until it’s too late to say thank you. I wanted her to hear it now—clearly, loudly, and forever.”
That loyalty didn’t just inspire the song—it helped bring it to life. His mom, Janelle Lynn Cox, shot the official press photography. His stepdad, Steve Cox, handled Spotify uploads and release logistics. His girlfriend, Faith Garrison, co-designed the single cover artwork with him. And longtime creative partner Joshua Adam Castro brought the lyric video to life.
“This isn’t just a song about loyalty,” Matt says. “It’s proof of it.”
Sonically, “My Armor” delivers the kind of punch fans of Skillet, Linkin Park, and Papa Roach will appreciate—anthemic, emotionally driven, and built for anyone who’s ever leaned on someone else’s strength.
Sassano, who has topped Christian rock radio with songs like “Not My Name” and “Dear God,” continues to carve a path defined by full-volume grit, emotional vulnerability, and unshakable faith—earning a growing following that spans both faith-based and mainstream rock audiences.
My Armor drops May 16 on all major streaming platforms. On May 23, a fan-powered tribute video will premiere on Matt’s official YouTube channel, featuring listener-submitted photos and messages honoring the ones who helped them survive.
Stream the song. Share the message. Send it to the one who never gave up on you.
Let them know—they were your armor too.
