Australian singer-songwriter Nathan Plumridge has released his brand-new single, Jesus In These Shoes, and in true Jake-and-Elwood fashion, he’s managed to get the band back together. Literally.
For the first time in years, Compliments of Gus has reunited - temporarily… but gloriously - as the featured artists on the track. And just like the movie, it all began with what Nathan describes as a “mission from God”.
The spark came when Nathan encountered a line from American philosopher Dallas Willard:
“Discipleship is the process of becoming who Jesus would be if he were you.”
That question - What would it look like if Jesus walked in my shoes? - became the heartbeat of the song.
To bring the idea to life, Nathan called on two long-time friends and top-tier writers, Justin Michael and Jared Haschek - who now hold respectable “straight jobs” as a pastor and a producer/arranger. Together, the trio crafted a song that is honest, catchy, and deeply human.
Then, in true Blues Brothers style, they “sweet-talked the whole band in for the recording”. Across states. Across countries. Across schedules that absolutely should not have aligned. But somehow… it worked. (We’re not saying it was divine intervention, but we’re also not not saying that!)
The result is a warm, soulful, radio-ready track that blends Nathan’s storytelling with the unmistakable heart of Compliments of Gus - plus a lush string section for good measure.
Jesus In These Shoes is thoughtful without being heavy, catchy without being cliché, and full of the kind of hope and imagination Christian audiences are craving right now. It invites listeners to consider discipleship not as an abstract idea, but as a lived, embodied journey - one pair of shoes at a time.
If you’re looking for a song that brings heart, humour, and a little “mission-from-God” magic to your playlist, this is the one.
The single is available now on all major streaming platforms.
