February 6, 2026 — The title track of their 2025 album, Promises Kept, is still riding high on the Southern Gospel airplay charts, but Sonlite Records’ Anthem Edition aren’t waiting to bring new music to their fans. Instead, the group delivers another thrilling dose of a classic quartet sound with their first release of 2026, “He Is Who He Is.”

“‘He Is Who He Is’ is a fun song to sing, and will be a favorite for everyone that loves quartet music,” notes the group’s lead singer, Tim Rackley. “It also has a powerful message in it,” he adds, “because He says 'I AM WHO I AM' and ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ (Exodus 3:14), and in Malachi 3:6 He confirms: ‘For I, the Lord, do not change.'”

Lifting up the elemental message of God’s eternal being, popular songwriter Mark Mathes’ “He Is Who He Is” gets a lively treatment, as legendary studio picker David Johnson’s banjo picking gives a bluegrass gloss to the opening chorus:

He is who He is, He was who He was
He did what He did, He still does what He does
The Alpha, Omega, the Babe from Bethlehem
The Spring of Living Water, and He is the Great I Am

After the opening chorus, piano, pedal steel and electric guitar take turns adding their distinctive flavors behind the energetic revelation of “He Is Who He Is”’s recounting of His miracles in two compact verses and a multitude of irresistibly singable choruses. From start to finish, it’s a performance that is pure Anthem Edition — and purely inspired.

Anthem Edition burst onto the scene in 2003 as a trio called The Old Paths, founded by Doug Roark and Tim Rackley with a mission to glorify the Lord. The trio soon became a quartet and gained national attention.
