[Murfreesboro, TN] Gospel Music Hall of Fame inductee Rich Mullins began his music career in Cincinnati with the forming of a regional ministry band called Zion. They released one album in 1981 called Behold The Man, with all songs written by Mullins. The opening track of the album is called “Praise To The Lord” – and after it was discovered and recorded by Amy Grant (and given the slight name-change to “Sing Your Praise To The Lord”), it soon became one of the most recognizable songs in the history of Contemporary Christian Music.
Zion’s Behold The Man was an independent album that never had a full national release. A new Kickstarter spearheaded by non-profit UTR Media and indie label Old Bear Records plans to remaster and reissue this historic album with a wide release – including the first time the album will ever be available on streaming platforms, and the first pressing on vinyl in 45 years.
“Behold The Man is a special album to so many Rich Mullins fans,” shared Anthony Hoisington, co-founder of Old Bear Records. "Yet, it’s still out-of-print and hard to find, and so it is very much still under-appreciated. We think now is the right time. With the help of the community, we plan to remaster the tracks and give it a full national release."
The Kickstarter campaign launched on May 19 and ends on June 10, 2026. A campaign stretch goal, if reached, will allow the team to release an additional album’s worth of largely unheard Zion demo recordings from the early 1980s. The campaign can be found by searching Rich Mullins or Zion on kickstarter.com, or direct at https://bit.ly/zionks.
