Keyodis Unveils New Full-Length "Enemy Skulls"

Christian metalcore project Keyodis releases its new full-length album, "Enemy Skulls!" The 14-track record is the band's most ambitious statement yet -- a chaotic, cinematic collision of mathcore unpredictability, hymn-like reverence, and unflinching honesty about suffering, doubt, and faith in Christ.

Formed from the wreckage of Austin, TX post-hardcore act Widows & Orphans and McAllen's Scarlett O'Hara, Keyodis is the work of Anthony Kroeker and Morgan Hochstetler -- two artists who write, record, mix, and build every piece of their world in-house, down to the visuals and merch.

"Enemy Skulls" doesn't pick one enemy. Across its runtime, the record turns its violence inward and outward at once: the false comfort of manipulation and control ("Cultz Candy"), the hypocrisy that hides behind stained glass ("The Warrant: The Reboot"), the vanity of chasing anything that isn't eternal ("Chasing Nothing - 34 44"), and the crushing weight of small-town depression and apathy ("Georgia's Only Son"). At the center of it all sits the album's clearest thesis, laid out in opener "Open Hand Closed Hand": in essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity -- a call to fight for truth without losing love in the process.

The band doesn't flinch from the source material either. "Incarnatio" and "Crucifixio" sit the listener inside the incarnation and crucifixion of Christ; "Nativitas Ecclesia" pulls from apocalyptic prophecy and the birth of the Church; closer "Quiet Time" leaves space to sit in silence with all of it. Guest musician Bryce Maopolski from Brotality joins the band on "With All Its Teeth," a meditation on art, creation, and glory that doubles as the record's clearest artist statement.

We want people to listen to our music and understand that they, too, are not alone in thinking deeply about who they are in their faith.
