NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Olive Shoots Music, a new project creating free, original songs for the earliest years of faith, will release Longing & Loss on Friday, October 30. The three-song collection, written for parents walking through miscarriage, infertility, and waiting, arrives during Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. It follows May the Lord Bless You, a Psalm 128 blessing released October 23, and the project's first collection, the lullabies Everlasting Love, streaming now at hypeddit.com/oliveshootsmusic/everlastinglove.
Every Olive Shoots song is free to stream, download, and share, and each comes with an animated lyric video and free curriculum for homes and churches. The project is funded by a grant from Belmont University's Creative Arts Collective for Christian Life and Faith. Its name comes from Psalm 128:3: "Your children will be like olive shoots around your table."
"Long before a child can read Scripture, they can sing it," said Dr. Ciara Reyes-Ton, the project's founder and executive producer. "The first five years are when faith takes root, and most of the music made for that age either talks down to children or wears their parents out. We wanted songs that could hold the hard moments alongside the ordinary ones: a lullaby for a sleepless night, a song for a mother sitting beside an incubator, a melody that helps a three-year-old carry God's Word in her heart. And we wanted all of it to be free, so no family or church has to choose between the music and the grocery bill."
Written with doctors, scientists, and children's pastors
Olive Shoots is led by Reyes-Ton, a scientist, songwriter, and adjunct professor at Lipscomb University who founded the Mount Carmell Worship Collective. Every collection was developed with panels of children's pastors, early childhood educators, board-certified music therapists, scientists, and physicians, including a pediatrician and an OBGYN. Upcoming releases feature Grammy Award winner DOE and Grammy-nominated, two-time Dove Award winner Mr. Talkbox.
Seven collections through December
Lullabies (out now), a Psalm 128 blessing (out now), Longing & Loss (October 30), STEM and Scripture songs (November), and songs for NICU babies, families expecting a child, and children with sensory processing needs (December).
