READER RATING:

Female singer Terrian joined CCM industry veteran Tobymac and his Diverse City Band in 2017. She has been an integral part of his live performances ever since, contributing powerhouse vocals and a versatile worshipper heart to the high-energy shows. She released her first solo music via the six-song EP, Genesis of Terrian, in 2019. Now, nearly three full years later, she drops her first full-length album, titled Give it Time. It was worth the wait.

With a big assist from Toby, her bandmate GabeReal, and a bevy of other co-writers, listeners get treated to an earnest blend of pop, gospel, and R&B. It's heartfelt and often downright fun. Perhaps the catchiest hooks are found in the opener, "Big God," and her duet with Toby on "Hope Road," which utilizes a hope-filled swagger also found in "Matthew 5." These three are easily among my favorites on the album.

Other highlights are the mid-tempo title track, "Give it Time," which contains the thesis of the record displayed in the lines from the chorus, "Wanted the stage, wanted the lights/Wanted to climb to the Hollywood sign/On top of the world in the blink of an eye/But I had to give it time." Additionally, "Honestly, We Just Need Jesus" and "Forever Holy" slow things down to focus attention fully vertically on the Lord. There really is a nice combination of genres, upbeat moments, and slower ones that make for an easy record to return to for its versatility.

All in all, Give It Time isn't revolutionary, but it is a solid top-to-bottom record with radio-ready hooks and an endearing wide-eyed sincerity. There's a full helping of encouragement to be found with each listen, and it's hard to leave any of these songs without positive feelings. I recommend it for fans of quality pop music with a good sprinkling of gospel and R&B for variety. This one is worth a listen if you are on the lookout for a sonic boost on the drive home, or a soundtrack for the to-do list.
